Microsoft recently unveiled the Xbox One, the successor to Xbox 360. Xbox One is a voice-and gesture-controlled game console focused on integrating and controlling all kinds of entertainment and social capabilities far beyond simply playing video games. The unveiling took place at Microsoft’s Seattle campus and included the Xbox Entertainment Studios president announcing Steven Spielberg’s new venture: creating a live-action television show based on the Halo game franchise.

Microsoft also announced a number of entertainment-oriented deals, including a new partnership with the NFL and ESPN that promises side-by-side integration of a viewer’s fantasy football stats with live game broadcasts, as well as an array of other sports. The event’s biggest video game announcement of the next generation of Activision blockbuster Call of Duty franchise, included Oscar-winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana).

Xbox Entertainment Studios President promised, “TV on the Xbox One will immerse you, allowing you to virtually jump into the action. It’s truly personalized. It will provide recommendations with amazing precision. It’s truly social. Xbox is about to become the next water cooler. And this is only Act One.” A Microsoft executive added “This is the beginning of truly intelligent TV.”

Xbox One will be a single device that would replace the need for a cable box, music players and other electronics cluttering people’s home entertainment centers. The device will have the ability to quickly move through a pay TV provider’s program guide, or go between live and VOD TV shows and movies, the Internet, video games, Skype phone calls and more. The device will also display different streams of entertainment side-by-side on the screen, controlled through voice comments and hand gestures read by the Kinect motion-detection controller. Player can use the device’s hand controller, or Smart Glass apps on smart phones and tablets to play or give commands.

More games, including eight new franchises will be shown at next month’s E3 videogame conference.

RUN is a fast paced, coming-of-age crime thriller, about seventeen year old, street smart Daniel who is self taught, and unknowingly adept at Parkour, a physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one’s path by adapting one’s movements to the environment.

Under the guidance of his tough loving, yet misguided father, Mike, Daniel utilizes his incredible athletic skills to become an agile young thief as they move from city to city. After a close call with the Detroit police, Mike decides to return to New York City in the hopes of settling a sixteen year old dispute and proving his innocence with the crime family where he met Daniel’s now deceased mother.

Daniel yearns for his nomadic lifestyle to end and finds himself bonding with Mark and a group of freerunners who introduce a name to his secret skill set. He instantly falls for Mark’s sister Emily who reveals secrets of her own and they both learn the importance of trust.

When Mike’s truce with the head of the crime family doesn’t quite go as planned, Daniel must utilize all his skills to fight for the life and freedom of not only him and his father, but also Mark and Emily when they unexpectedly get pulled into the dispute.

FEATURING:

Andrew Wilson

Andrew started at Evolution Management, where he was instrumental in shepherding the ultra-successful horror franchise SAW to the big screen (he took the credit of Consigliere for the first film). During his 11-year stint at Evolution, Andrew began managing high profile clients such as horror/fantasy legend Clive Barker, and filmmaker Darren Bousman whose collective worldwide film grosses are nearing half of a billion dollars. Wilson was also able to develop, package and produce LOTTERY TICKET starring Ice Cube for Warner Brothers while at Evolution, before moving on to the next phase of his career. Andrew joined the already successful Zero Gravity team in Spring 2012 and continues to represent some of the most exciting writers and directors in the industry (including Tobe Hooper who directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre) with an eye towards furthering his efforts as a producer under the Zero Gravity banner.

Adam Simon

Writer-Director Adam Simon sold his script “The Haunting in Connecticut” to Lionsgate which went on to gross $77 Million worldwide. Adam directed the documentary “American Nightmare” as well as cult classics “Carnosaur” and “Brain Dead” for Roger Corman.

Kailey Marsh

Kailey is a lit manager and film producer. She is founder of The Blood List, the annual list of the top 13 most-liked screenplays in the horror, thriller, sci fi, fantasy, or dark comedy/drama genres as voted on by 100 industry insiders.

Misha Green

Misha is a rising star in the world of Hollywood TV and film writing. She has written for Spartacus, Sons of Anarchy, Heroes among others, and she has sold spec screenplays all over town.

Mickey Keating

Moderator: Heather Wixson, Dread Central

Heather Wixson is an online journalist covering the horror genre with DreadCentral.com. An advocate for independent genre filmmaking, Wixson created DC’s Indie Horror Month which runs every March and successfully launched the CineMayhem Film Fest earlier this year in Thousand Oaks, CA. Wixson also currently handles Marketing, Distribution and Digital Media for Imagination Worldwide, an independent sales and distribution company.

Come for this live-streamed Q&A and then stay afterwards to meet these experts in genre filmmaking.

Every success formula ever written or published boils down to these seven steps.

1. Know where you’re starting from. (A).

Every journey has a starting place. With the journey towards success, it’s an understanding of yourself, the resources you have available, and the realities of the world around you. Without this, any action you take will be meaningless.

2. Know where you want to be (B).

Every journey has a goal, too. Nobody defines success in exactly the same way, so your destination must be specific to you. The more specific the goal, the easier it will be to get there, which is why goal-setting is so essential.

3. Build a plan to get from A to B.

Everyone needs a plan, so spend the time to create one. However, the trick with success plans is to remember that they’re always tentative and subject to change. Use whatever role models and methods you like, but don’t cast anything in concrete.

4. Take massive action based on that plan.

Most people with a plan don’t take enough action. A few tentative steps aren’t going to let you discover whether your plan is working or not. Do 10 things when most people would be satisfied with one or two. You’ve got to totally blitz this sucker.

5. Observe whether you’re closer to B.

This is difficult for most people because once they’ve put some effort into a plan, they desperately want to see the results they hope for. They even see such results when they’re not actually there. So take a hard, objective look. Get outside help if you need it.

6. If the plan is working, double down on Step 4.

If you can prove to yourself (and to an objective observer) that the actions based upon your plan are truly getting you from A to B, then you should redouble your efforts. Take even more massive action. Don’t forget, though, to do Step five afterwards.

7. If the plan isn’t working, go back to step 3.

The reason you took massive action is that you can’t fool yourself into thinking that the problem was that you didn’t really try. You can now go back and build another plan, armed with the valuable knowledge of what didn’t work.

This is called the 99 percent success formula because it raises the question: what’s the other 1 percent?

It’s “luck.”

The whole point of every success formula (including this one) is to reduce the influence of “luck” so that you don’t have to think about it when you’re either planning or taking action based on your plans.
